Start and end your song with the chord that matches the scale name.
F major scale
With the F major scale use the F major chord to make the feel more major sounding. A major sound is usually happy.
D minor scale
With the D minor scale use the D minor chord to make the feel more minor sounding. A minor sound is usually sad.
You can still keep using other chords from the scale (in fact it would be pretty bland to just use one chord for a song), but focusing on these will really help target the sound.
